Bulgarian voters said on Sunday no to the status quo and the abusive rule of the center-right GERB party, the Socialist leader said at a press conference shortly after midnight.

"We witnessed a chaotic organization of the elections, which lead to chaos, violations," Sergey Stanishev told reporters.

In his words the caretaker government not only failed in guaranteeing the fair elections, but also allowed technical issues to stand in the the way.

“Today was a day for a protest against the status quo, the day that brought change.”

“We, all opposition parties, not only had to fight with GERB, but also we had to fight against the state machine,” Stanishev said.

He conceded that many people, who are not part of the Socialist party core voters, have voted for the Socialsit party, seeing it as the only alternative to GERB.

“The government of Boyko Borisov is toppled and will not be back,” Stanishev said.

He stressed that GERB will not be able, under any circumstances, to form a government.

Stanishev called on Borisov to not accept the mandate for forming a new government.

“A minority coalition is out of the question. A government of national salvation, made up of experts, is the only rescue for Bulgaria.”

“We will not form a coalition with GERB,” he confirmed.
