Former ruling party GERB has won Sunday's snap elections in Bulgaria with some 4-6 percentage points difference over main rivals Bulgarian Socialist Party, according to first exit polls.

GERB got 31% of the vote, against 25.3% for the Socialists, followed by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms with around 10.3%, according to the Sova Harris agency quoted by the Bulgarian National TV.

According to the Alpha Research agency, GERB has 31.1% of the vote, the Socialists - 27.1, and the Movement - 11%.

According to both Sova Harris and Alpha Research, the only other party entering parliament according to exit polls is nationalists Ataka, with some 7.5% of the vote.

However, both agencies say new party Bulgaria for Citizens is hovering just below the 4% election hurdle.

Election turnout is estimated to be around 45-46%, well above the exceptional 60.2% registered at the last parliamentary elections in Bulgaria in 2009.

Expect details.
