The campaign has now become an annual event. The most volunteers have turned out in the capital Sofia.
By Saturday evening, the participants have collected 12 metric tons of waste. For the first time this year the recyclable trash has been separated.
The campaign has also been massive in the cities of Plovdiv, Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo, and Varna, among many others.
A number of celebrities – singers and actors, and senior politicians and officials, such as President, Rosen Plevneliev, caretaker Prime Minister, Marina Raykov, and the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, also took part in the cleaning effort.
The 2013 campaign had a special focus on water basins and reservoirs. Scores came to clean the Iskar dam near Sofia.
