Bulgaria can expect Azeri gas via the Nabucco West pipeline in end- 2018 or early 2019, according to Christian Dolezal, spokesperson of the Nabucco consortium.
"We are very optimistic because we provided everything the Shah Deniz consortium wanted. We have reached a very advanced stage of the permit issuance procedure. If all proceeds as planned, Bulgaria can expect Azeri gas supplies in end 2018-early 2019" Dolezal said in a Thursday interview for the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
The EU-backed Nabucco project is to carry Caspian natural gas to Europe by circumventing Russia.
In May 2012, the Nabucco Consortium presented the revised, smaller version of the gas pipeline project called Nabucco West.
The 1300-km pipeline Nabucco West is to carry Caspian gas from the Bulgarian-Turkish border to the Central European Gas Hub (CEGH) in Baumgarten and beyond.
The project's current shareholders include the Bulgarian Energy Holding (Bulgaria), Botas (Turkey), FGSZ (Hungary), OMV (Austria), and Transgaz (Romania).
