Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
The teams of Google Street View, which have been photographing Bulgarian cities for several days now, have take photos of what is probably Bulgaria's most famous international landmark – the St. Alexander Nevski Catherdral in Sofia.
On Thursday, Google Street View released photos of its cars photographing Sofia's St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral. Each of the Google Street View cars is equipped with 15 lenses taking 360 degrees of photographs. It also has motion sensors to track its position, a hard drive to store data, a small computer running the system, and lasers to capture 3D data to determine distances within the Street View imagery.
The Google Street View service is taking pictures of the streets of Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse and 66 other cities, towns and resorts over the following moths. Google will dim the license plate numbers and people's faces that get in the images.
Google Street View is a technology featured in Google Maps and Google Earth that provides panoramic views from various positions along many streets in the world.
It was launched on May 25, 2007, originally only in several cities in the United States, and has since gradually expanded to include more cities and rural areas worldwide.
A schedule for the vehicles that will take pictures in Bulgaria can be found on google.bg/streetview.
Bulgaria is the 41st country, whose streets will be available on Google Street View.
