Bulgaria's Chief Secretary of the Interior, Kalin Georgiev, should be sacked because of the recent series of police brutality cases in Bulgaria, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov believes.
"When I was Chief Secretary, I was responsible for all Interior Ministry operations. Now, I have not heard Kalin Georgiev say a thing," Borisov ponted out in an interview for Nova TV.
At the end of last week, a family based in Sofia complained of police brutality and reported they have been severely beaten and, with no sound motivation, detained by police, who after that went on to violently break in and search their home.
On Tuesday, it emerged that an 18-year boy had been beaten with a stun baton by a plainclothes policeman at the regional police department in the southwestern village of Skravena.
In his interview on Thursday, Borisov emphasized that Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov is not the person responsible for the professional training of police officers, referring to the recent case in which a murder suspect allegedly committed suicide in the presence of policemen.
He further stated that Tsvetanov should have "axed" some of the "big bosses".
However, the Prime Minister added that Tsvetanov was not obliged to listen to his advice and fire high officials.
