Bulgaria's Day of Courage: Honoring St. George and the Bulgarian Army
On May 6th, Bulgarians commemorate St. George's Day, a significant occasion intertwined with the nation's history and traditions
The Bulgarian Army's phased withdrawal from Afghanistan will not be completed before the end of 2014, said Bulgarian Minister of Defense Anyu Angelov Saturday.
According to Angelov, this is in line with the military needs on site, where Bulgarian soldiers are taking care of the security of Afghanistan's two most important airports - in capital Kabul and in Kandahar.
"The need for a slow pullout of our contingent in Afghanistan is based on the fact that their mission of guarding those airports is of a special nature, compared to that of regular troops," commented Angelov for the Bulgarian National Radio.
The Bulgarian Defense Minister assured that Bulgarian forces will come back from Afghanistan only after local security forces are completely ready to take up their place, which according to him is not set to fully happen before 2014.
Wednesday the Bulgarian government adopted a decision to pull out the larger part of the Bulgarian Army 600-strong unit from Afghanistan by 2014.
