Minister of Agriculture Mehmed Dikme and Ambassador Jacques Wunenburger, Head of the Euro Commission Delegation, discussed on Thursday Bulgaria`s readiness to start negotiations with the EU on the Agriculture chapter. Wunenburger said that implementation of the SAPARD Programme is the first decisive step in the process of European integration and an indicator of progress in the talks to join the EU. Wunenburger pledged to convey to the Brussels officials Bulgaria`s wish to start talks on the chapter during the Belgian EU presidency. Dikme and Wunenburger discussed the development of the land market and the introduction of the full set of European standards in farming statistics. The two shared the view that a mechanism for consolidation of farming land should be developed, which will increase the price of land and attract foreign investment. On Thursday Dikme also met with US Ambassador to Bulgaria Richard Miles and British Ambassador Richard Stagg. Dikme and Stagg discussed the opportunities of developing organic farming. He and Miles talked about the opportunities for cooperation in joint programmes in farming and for increasing bilateral trade.
