Deadly Russian Assault on Odesa Sparks Mourning, Allegations of War Crimes
Tragedy struck the Ukrainian port city of Odesa as Russia unleashed a devastating assault, claiming the lives of five people and leaving over 30 injured
One day after the publication of the scandalous WikiLeaks report on Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, US Ambassador James Warlick paid a surprise visit to Parliament to listen to Borisov's statement during the parliamentary sitting.
In a subsequent interview for the media, the US Ambassador declared his support for the Bulgarian Prime Minister.
"I would like to once again highlight that we have absolute confidence in Bulgaria's Prime Minister, we hold him in high esteem, we have complete trust in the Bulgarian government and we consider Bulgaria a strong partner and ally", Warlick stated, assuring journalists of what he called "very strong relations" between Bulgaria and the US.
When asked to comment on the WikiLeaks allegations about Prime Minister Borisov's participation in scandalous fuel deals, meta-amphetamine trafficking and close ties to Lukoil and Russia, the US Ambassador again asserted that cables could not be treated as US'official stance on foreign affairs.
He refused to comment on their content or to elaborate on the timing of their appearance.
Borisov, on his part, thanked the US top diplomat for coming to Parliament to answer journalists' questions about the newly published cables.
When asked if he wired cables with similar content to the US Department of State, Warlick made it clear that it was his job to report "on various aspects of the life of Bulgarian society".
The US Ambassador refused to go into detail, adding that what he told Bulgarian citizens was no different from the things he reported to Washington.
Warlick also noted that his reports to Washington had always been open and objective, giving praise where deserved.
"All these reports testify to our strong cooperation and our readiness to work with Bulgaria", Warlick concluded.
