Poland will demand Bulgaria to be accepted in the Schengen Agreement as early as 2011, according to its Prime Minister, Donald Tusk.

"Bulgaria has covered all technical requirements in order to join the Schengen area. Your borders are well controlled and you have a good budget policy,"Tusk stated in Sopot, northern Poland, where Borisov's visit comes as part of a series of international consultations preceding Poland's EU presidency, starting July 1st.

"Bulgaria and Poland have common attitudes and priorities concerning all EU questions," Tusk further stated.

"We put all possible efforts to cover the Schengen criteria and we expect our partners to recognize what we have achieved," Boyko Borisov said.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister congratulated his Polish counterpart on his country's upcoming EU presidency and pointed out Poland can count on full support on behalf of the Balkan country.
