The consumption of electricity on New Year’s Eve in Bulgaria was about 1,000 MW more than last year, the Electricity System Operator has announced.
At 6 pm on December 31, 2010, the consumption was reportedly 6,700 MW, while in 2009, it was 5,700 MW.
Mariana Dimitrova, the press officer of the Electricity System Operator, has stated that the numbers were normal because the maximum possible power is about 8,000 MW.
About 1,000 MW more was also the consumption on New Year’s Eve, compared to Christmas Eve, when the registered consumption was 5,600 MW.
The largest amount of power consumption for 2010 was registered on January 26 and it was 7,270 MW.
The Electricity System Operator has pointed out that there were no breakdowns during the holidays. The energy system is ensured and even in sharp drop of temperatures and increase of consumption, the system will not be hampered and will function properly.
