Ambassador James Warlick has declared that his openness has helped solidify the good relations between Bulgaria and the United States, thus responding to criticism by US Republican Party activists.
"My openness contributes to making the relations between Bulgaria and the USA more robust. Most Bulgarians know that when I speak out on issues connected with energy, rule of law, or security, I do this absolutely openly, and I believe that in this way we share common values," His Excellency stated in Bulgaria's Ruse on Friday as cited by BGNES.
Despite what is seen as unprecedentedly good relations between Bulgaria and the USA, Warlick has spoken out critically of the Bulgarian government regulations on renewable energy, among other things, in order to warn the Cabinet that Bulgaria could lose major US investments in the sector if it did not streamline its state regulation.
Earlier on Friday, Daniel Halloran, a Republican member of the New York City Council, criticized Warlick for "meddling" in Bulgaria's internal affairs.
Halloran was in Sofia at the invitation of the RZS ("Order, Law, Justice"), a marginal conservative political party.
