Across Europe, May 8th is celebrated as Victory Day, commemorating the Allied triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II
All European countries should come together to promote "Europe" as a tourism brand, according to Bulgaria's Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism, Traicho Traikov.
Traikov participated in the European Tourism Forum in Malta on November 18-19, 2010.
Traikov cited data from the EU 2020 Strategy saying that in the next ten years 47% of all tourists in Europe will come from Asian countries.
Therefore, he urged the EU to come up with a joint solution for tourist visas.
In his words, Bulgaria will back any effort to promote Europe as a tourist brand.
Traikov pointed out that Bulgaria has a lot of winter and summer resorts but that it features a lot of unused opportunities for alternative tourism.
"We have to do something about the visa especially for the Chinese and Russian market but also for other countries," said also European Commissioner vice-president Antonio Tajani, who is responsible for industry and entrepreneurship, as cited by the Times of Malta.
Tajani pointed out the importance of the emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, and China – as well as – of other countries in Asia – for the European tourism market.
