As many as 30 new wildfires have occurred in Bulgaria Thursday, the Head of the National Firefighting Services, Nikola Nikolov, has informed.
A total of 264 wildfires are currently active across the country. The situation is still critical in the Sofia region, the North-Western Bulgarian regions of Botevgrad, Pravets, Etropole and Montana, and the North-Central Bulgarian regions of Lovech, Troyan and Teteven.
In the Sofia region alone, there were 34 active fires Wednesday evening.
In the course of the last 24 hours, some 300 wildfires have been extinguished, 230 of them have occurred in dry forests. The firefighters have continued their efforts to tame the fires in the Balkan mountain region during the whole night.
Thursday, more than 1100 firefighters, policemen and volunteers are expected to participate in extinguishing the fires.
Medical teams are on duty near all fire locations. No people are currently in danger.
