The Czech-owned power utility CEZ has announced that there will be no power outages at the Bulgarian winter resorts in the territory served by the company.
“Even though at present the Borovetz resort is on the verge of its electric equipment, there are no dangers of potential breakdown because there have not been new constructions at the resort for more than a year,” said Rosen Yordanov, the head of “Operation and maintenance of network” department of CEZ.
He added that the Bulgarian towns of Ihtiman, Kostinbrod, Bansko and the Borovetz resort need the construction of substations.
According to Yordanov, the options for boosting the power supply to the Borovetz resort are either the construction of a distribution line from the town of Samokov to the resort, or the construction of a separate substation on the territory of Borovetz.
“There is a problem with the alienation procedures of the land through which the distribution line could pass, and there is no vacant land in Borovetz that CEZ could buy to build a substation,” Yordanov said.
He pointed out that the utility will manage with the power supply to the resort in the busiest winter season. He explained that breakdowns could happen only because of bad weather conditions or the illegal logging, which sometimes cuts cables.
The mayor of Samokov, Angel Nikolov, has stated that the region is expected to accommodate 60 000 new people in the next few years.
According to CEZ, however, the increased number of tourist sites should be accompanied with an increase of the approved funding for investments in the power supply network in the region by the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR).
