Renowned Bulgarian Author Alek Popov Dies at 58
The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has announced the passing of acclaimed Bulgarian writer Alek Popov at the age of 58
Renowned Bulgarian writer Doncho Tsonchev died at the age of 77 Thursday night.
Tsonchev was born on July 27, 1933, in the northern Bulgarian town of Levski. He graduated from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski with a degree in geology in 1959.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Tsonchev held several editorial positions at Bulgarian magazines and publishing houses.
He was a member of Parliament in 2005-2009. In 2004, he received a “Stara Planina” Order from the Bulgarian President for his contribution to Bulgarian culture. In 2007, he received the literature award of the Sofia University.
Doncho Tsonchev is the author of 60 books, including novels, short stories, and pamphlets, 4 movie scripts, and 5 plays. His works have been translated into 28 languages. His works explore topics related to nature and the world of animals as well as youth.
