The US Ambassador to Bulgaria, James Warlick, is on an official visit to the Bulgarian Black Sea capital of Varna Saturday, to meet with the Varna Mayor, Kiril Yordanov.
After the meeting, Warlick gave a brief statement for the media, including comments on the signing of the so-called road map for the Russian gas line South Stream between Bulgaria and Russia.
Warlick said he is following the events in the nearby State residence Euxinograd with great interest and is anxious to find out more details.
Regarding South Stream, the Ambassador explained current US interests involve protecting the energy security of Bulgaria and the region, along with diversification and transparency of the energy supplies.
Warlick pointed out Russia is a secure and trustworthy energy partner, willing to make significant investments in Bulgaria.
In addition to energy projects, the Ambassador informed he had discussed with the Mayor the opportunities for American investments in Varna, mainly in the tourism and services sectors.
Warlick also has a scheduled meeting with the Varna Regional Governor, Dancho Simeonov.
