Bulgaria’s State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR) will subject to public discussion Wednesday the gas price hike expected on July 1.

According to the Commission’s report, the price must go up by the staggering 30% as requested by the State supplier Bulgargaz.

The Head of DKEVR, Angel Semerdzhiev, says the price will go up by 24% to 25% and cannot be lowered further because the Bulgargaz request includes the changes of gas price according to delivery contracts, the USD and fuel prices going up.

The Economy and Energy Minister, Traicho Traikov, already stated he would not interfere as he did in March to artificially lower gas prices, saying this would not be a “suitable” strategy at the moment. During the last regulatory period Traikov reduced gas prices by 5% after DKEVR voted an increase of 11%.

The gas price increase will determine the heating and hot water prices with the latest forecasts of 12% up, beginning July 1.
