Bulgaria's President, Georgi Parvanov, declared Tuesday that the European project 2020 can only pass through the admission of the Western Balkans in the EU.
Parvanov delivered the keynote address during the opening of the annual meeting with foreign ambassadors to Bulgaria, held in the town of Pravets, near Sofia.
Foreign Minister, Nikolay Mladenov, was also part of the meeting.
According to the President, Bulgaria's national strategy as part of the European strategy, must change the model of the last 20 years.
“I am convinced our institutions will propose a working long-term vision for Bulgaria's dignified place in the EU, based on our national trade marks, our advantages that will make us a key transport, communication, energy, finance and investment crossroad,” the Head of State pointed out.
Parvanov explained the challenges faced now by the world's strongest economies show the need of search of new solutions and no one has a guaranteed spot in this situation, adding Europe is facing the dilemma of either making drastic changes or succumbing to the pressure.
The President further stressed on Bulgaria's readiness to contribute to a strong Europe with its great relations with neighbors, countries in the Black Sea region, the US and the Middle East, but pointed out the big problem stemming from the lack of highways, railroads, and other adequate infrastructure to connect Balkan capitals.
