Bulgarian tourists rank third, behind Germans and Iranians, in terms of visitor numbers to Turkey for January-March 2010.
Data from the Turkey Tourism Ministry, as cited by BTA, shows that a total of 7,9% Bulgarians have visited the country in the last three months of the year, while German and Iranian tourists make up 16,5% and 13,9% respectively of Turkey's tourist flow.
According to the data provided, there's been a 17,1% increase in the number of tourist visits to Turkey in March in comparison to last year's figure for the same period.
A total of 1,4 million tourists have visited Bulgaria's neighboring country in March, 18,45% of them Germans.
Iranians rank second in terms of tourist visits with 16,96% while Bulgarians are third with 6,45%.
Antalya, Edirne and Istanbul are three of the most preferred Turkish cities by tourists, with Istanbul topping the list with 21,8% of foreign visits.
Istanbul was dubbed European Cultural Capital 2010, together with Pécs in Hungary and the German city of Essen.
Thus Turkey has moved ahead with its candidacy for the European Union and launched a number of culture and arts related projects aimed at demonstrating that Istanbul has interacted and been a part of Europe's culture for centuries.
