Bulgaria is about to appoint four new Ambassadors – to the USA, France, Macedonia, and UNESCO.
The four Bulgarian Ambassadors are waiting for their new appointments abroad, announced the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
Marin Raykov, Bulgaria's acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of the GERB party and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, will be appointed once again Bulgarian Ambassador in Paris.
In 2001-2005, Raykov was Bulgaria’s Ambassador to France. He will be replacing Bulgarian diplomat Irina Bokova, who became the first woman to lead the UNESCO on September 22, 2009.
Bulgaria's new national representative in UNESCO will be Alexander Savov, who was in charge of the Bulgarian mission in South Korea until 2008.
Rakovski Lashev, former Secretary at the Bulgarian Mission to the UN in Geneva, will be the country's new Ambassador in Skopje.
Elena Poptodorova will again assume the position of Bulgarian Ambassador in Washington, DC. She will be replacing Lachezar Petkov.
Petkov, together with Bulgaria's former Ambassador to Turkey, Branimir Mladenov, resigned in the fall of 2009 after the Foreign Ministry initiated their recall over violations they allowed during the Bulgarian Parliamentary Elections in July of the same year.
The procedure of commissioning the new Bulgarian diplomats was delayed for a few months precisely because of the conflict between President Georgi Parvanov and former Foreign Minister Rumyana Jeleva that came up as Parvanov refused to sign the recall orders for the two Ambassadors.
Currently, all the Bulgarian ambassador-designates expect the confirmation of the respective foreign countries. After that, the Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov will declare officially their appointments.
