Dead Bird Found near Bulgaria's Varna Positive for Avian Flu
Bulgaria's Agriculture Ministry announced Thursday that the tests of a dead bird found near the Black Sea city of Varna came out positive for avian flu, H5N1.
The egional veterinary office in Bulgaria’s Danube city of Silistra has banned all bird exhibits and open markets over the threat of avian flu.
On Thursday, a dead river gull has been found in a yard in Silistra and sent to the Lab at the National Veterinary Institute in Sofia. Results are expected in two other cases of dead birds – a pheasant and a pigeon found in Silistra and the nearby town of Tutrakan.
The measures also come as a result of the announced avian flu outbreak in neighboring Romania.
