The Bulgarian rangers, who were injured during a Taliban rocket attack in Kandahar, will be moved to an US hospital in Germany.
A Taliban rocket attack hit the Kandahar NATO Air Base late Sunday night during the visit of the Bulgarian Defense Minister, Nikolay Mladenov, there. Four Bulgarian rangers, serving in Afghanistan, were wounded.
The surgery of Sergent Aleksandrov, who is said to be in the worst condition and reportedly in a coma, had been done early Monday morning. He is stable, but still on life support, Minister Mladenov informed in a special interview for Darik radio.
Mladenov further said that one of the four injured has been released from the hospital overnight, adding he spent the entire night with the wounded.
According to Mladenov, corporal Yordan Petkov also underwent surgery and is in stable condition, but still sedated and unable to talk. Private Yavor Ivanov, who suffered a broken ankle, sustained the lightest injuries.
About 270 Bulgarian rangers provide security for the inside perimeter of the Kandahar airport in Afghanistan.
