The first edition of the new culinary festival - "The Tastes of Varna" - started Tuesday night in the Bulgarian Black Sea capital.
The organizers from the Bulgarian Culinary Union, Design Studio Reperta, and PR Agency Anettevents aim to bring the Bulgaria the European tradition of holding this type of events as well as to aid the Bulgarian tourism sector by promoting high quality food and drinks, and elegant interior and exterior design. Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency) is an official media partner of the event.
The five-star Helios Spa & Resort complex in the top Golden Sands resort on the Black Sea coast is the official partner of the Tastes of Varna Fest.
The Festival also intends to become an annual event where Bulgarian restaurant and hotel businesses, and producers of food and drinks can make their products and services better known.
The event, which will last until Sunday, September 13, 2009, with daily happenings, is sponsored by food producer BELLA Bulgaria, and wines producer Black Sea Gold - Pomorie.
All events are hosted by actor Uti Bachvarov, the top host of the culinary show of the Bulgarian National Television.
The Tastes of Varna Festival was supposed to be opened on September 7, but its start was put off for a day because of the mourning over the tragedy in Ohrid, Macedonia, in which 15 Bulgarian tourists drowned in the Ohrid Lake.
During their first press conference the organizers of the Festival also donated BGN 1 017 from the ticket sales of the first day of the event to the relatives of the people who died in the Ohrid tragedy, and called upon other firms and organizations to follow their example.
