Bulgaria has the worst track record in Eastern Europe in dealing with its communist past, according to the renown German writer of Bulgarian origin, Iliya Troyanov (German spelling: Ilija Trojanow).
In an interview for Novinite.com, Troyanov declared that there was a clear link between reassessing the past and starting a new future, and that Bulgaria still had not taken the first step in that direction.
In his words, the old communist regime nomenclature had turned into a new oligarchy and mafia.
Troyanov also pointed out that contemporary Bulgaria was lacking the understanding that education and culture were central to development that Bulgarian fighters against Ottoman rule had back in the past.
Iliya Troyanov was in Sofia for the presentation of the Bulgarian edition of his book "Nomad on Four Continents", which is published by Ciela Soft & Publishing Jsc.
