Bulgaria's Patriarch Maxim ushered in Christmas celebrations in the country with a festive service in Sofia's St. Alexander Nevski cathedral.

President Georgi Parvanov traditionally attended the ceremony, at which Patriarch Maxim wished health and joy to all Bulgarians.

The Patriarch also wished that God's benevolence shines down on the pious Bulgarian people.

Bulgarian Orthodox priests from Canada, the US and other countries also took part in the mass, which was covered live by national media.
