The match from group 8 of the 2010 World Cup qualifications between Bulgaria and World Champion Italy ended with a 0:0 score Saturday evening in Sofia.

The score brought the firs lost points for "squadra azura" with the blue team considered favorite in the group.

The Bulgarian team led by famous Bulgarian football player Dimitar Berbatov showed a good and, at times, brave game against the World Champions. According to Berbatov's own words after the game, the Bulgarian National Team left "the Italians, who were certain in their win, a little bit surprised."

There were many goal situations for both teams, but none managed to realize them. The best opportunity for the Italians came in the 72nd minute, when Rossi made a good pas towards Giraldino, but he failed to score. From the Bulgarian team Berbatov had the most chances to score, followed by Chavdar Yankov, who missed in the 88th minute.

The next game for the Bulgarian team comes very soon - they are to play Georgia on Wednesday as guests.

The current ranking in group 8 is as follows: Italy with 3 games and 7 points, Ireland with 2 games and 4 points, Bulgaria with 2 games and 2 points, Monte Negro - 2 games, 2 points, Cyprus - 2 games, 1 point and Georgia 3 games, 1 point.

As Berbatov summarized it: "We are not Brazil, one point is good."

The only thing that is worrying is that apparently BG had 1 shot within the Italian goal in the 88th minute for the whole match - you dont go too far if you are not able to reach the other team goal.

Italy is very good at pacing themselves, they conserve their energy, and will qualify with the least possible effort. In the game they played aganst Cyprus, they socored in over time to win 2:1. But Bulgaria isnt ranked 15th in the world for nothing:) I watched the game and it looked like both teams where playing for a draw.

I didnt watch the match but it looks like the Italians held themselves back because they couldnt score.

With their playing style Italy has 90% chances to make 0:0 against anyone anytime. If they score one goal, in many cases its enough to win and if they dont they get away with a draw.

I hope our guys will get better in the next games and will qualify for South Africa.
