Bulgaria's national football team drew 2:2 its first world cup qualification with Montenegro Saturday night.

After dominating during the first half, the Bulgarians came very close to losing match as their opponents played significantly better than them in the last half an hour of the game.

Bulgaria's Stiliyan Petrov, who plays for Aston Villa, scored for 1:0 in the eleventh minute after a quick attack initiated by the newly acquired Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov. Berbatov himself missed to score from a near position several minutes later.

After several more near misses, the Bulgarian team slowed down their game during the second half, whereas the Montenegrins started to attack more aggressively.

In the sixty-second minute, the A.S. Roma striker Vucinic scored from a controversial foul shot for 1:1.

In the eightieth minute the 19-year-old Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic scored a penalty goal for 2:1 after Bulgaria's Stanislav Angelov, who plays for the German team Energie Cottbus, committed an obvious foul in the penalty area and got a second yellow card and a red card.

At the very end of the match, in the second minute of the three-minute extra time, Bulgaria was saved from a miserable loss by Blagoy Georgiev, a former MSV Duisburg midfielder currently playing for Slavia Sofia, who scored for 2:2 from a foul shot.

Two of Bulgaria's players, Zhivko Milanov from PFC Levski Sofia, and Ivelin Popov from PFC Litex Lovech, had to be replaced after suffering contusions.
