NORWAY OPENED ITS FIRST EMBASSY IN BULGARIA

The first Royal Norwegian Embassy in Sofia was opened on April 30 at a ceremony attended by Deputy Secretary General for Political matters with the Norway’s Foreign Ministry Johan Ludvik Lovald. The Embassy will focus its work on developing bilateral relations, attracting more Bulgarian tourists in Norway and more Norwegian investments in Bulgaria, Mr. Lovald and Norway’s Ambassador His Excellency Rolf Baltzersen said at a press conference at Radisson SAS Grand Hotel. “For me the opening of Norway’s Embassy in Bulgaria is a confirmation of the traditionally good relations between our two countries,” Mr. Lovald pointed out. Norway’s support for NATO large-scale expansion and Bulgaria’s EU bid was also epxressed. His Excellency Rolf Baltzersen, the first Sofia-based Ambassador of Norway, presented his credentials to Bulgarian President Parvanov November 28, 2001. So far Norway had only a consulate in Bulgaria and its headquarters were in Romania.Foreign Minister Passy, Ambassadors of EU and NATO member states, and friends of Norway also attended the ceremony. Thank you letters were handed to Swedish Ambassador Sten Ask, who acted as Norway’s General Consul in Bulgaria before the opening of the Embassy, as well as to Dutch Ambassador Christian Faber-Rod. Bilateral economic, political and economic relations were discussed by the Norwegian delegation and Deputy Interior Minister Petko Draganov before the ceremony.
