Czech PM Visits Washington to Finalise Missile Shield Deal

Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek is on a visit to Washington to finalise a controversial agreement over hosting US missile defence shield.

The US plans to place radars in the Czech Republic, ostensibly to be used in a shield against rogue states, such as Iran, Russia Today reported.

Russia strongly opposes the plans, saying they would threaten its security interests. President Vladimir Putin has even made a proposal to the US for a joint operation and building a radar base in Azerbaijan, which shares a border with Iran.

Meanwhile, Poland declared that talks being held in Washington this week will show whether the country will also host part of the U.S. shield.
