A total of 306 crumbling buildings in Bulgaria's capital city of Sofia have to be demolished, because they pose a danger to passers-by, Building Control head Vladi Kalinov explained on Thursday.

Experts estimated that the number of the dangerous constructions has reached 485 until the end of the last year.

So far 65 buildings have been taken down and another 16 demolition orders were brought to court and are still under discussion.

"Authorities ordered the destroying of 145 killer-buildings and the restoration of 19 other," Vladi Kalinov said.

On his part, the Mayor of the coastal city of Varna, where a collapsed bank visor killed a young woman in the beginning of January, explained the local experts are also working hard on spotting the dangerous places there.
