Six people are feared dead after an explosion tore through a block of flats in Dnipropetrovsk in eastern Ukraine, BBC reported.

Officials said a natural gas explosion was to blame for the blast, which happened at about 1100 (0800 GMT).

Reports say part of the block of flats was destroyed, and rubble cascaded into the street. The blast broke windows in neighbouring buildings.

Panicking residents were seen being evacuated from the parts of the building that remained standing.
