Colombian police said on Monday they have captured the country's most important drug baron, who appears on FBI's "10 most wanted list".
Diego Montoya is alleged to be the leader of Colombia's last remaining major drug cartel, the Norte del Valle, which is based near the city of Cali.
He is accused of producing tonnes of cocaine for the US market annually, and the FBI had a bounty of USD 5 M for his capture.
The Norte del Valle rose to prominence after the Medellin and Cali cartels have been dismantled, but it too succumbed to the Colombian authorities' crackdown on drug production.
Despite their dogged efforts, however, cocaine supply for the US market from Colombia is believed to be largely unaffected.
