The businessman, who was shot in the head on Wednesday outside his home in downtown Sofia, remains in critical condition and doctors refrain from making forecasts.

Manol Velev, husband of Bulgaria's youth and sports state agency chairwoman Vessela Lecheva and advisor to the president, was shot shortly after 10 am on Mizia street.

The emergency unit, where Velev has been rushed after a heavy surgery to take the bullet out of his head, is guarded by police, local reports said.
