Dentist's Murderer Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in Bulgaria
Crime | February 27, 2007, Tuesday // 00:00
The Regional Court of Bulgaria's seaside city of Burgas sentenced Tuesday the dentist Vanina Russinova's killer to life imprisonment.
The convicted Hristo Atanasov, who is a beggar, will have to pay blood money to the victim's family at the amount of BGN 90,000 as well as all the court costs for the trial.
D-r Vanina Russinova, 31, was murdered with scissors in her own dental surgery in April 2003.
Atanassov claimed that he visited the surgery on the day of the murder but left until the dentist had been still alive.
The killer, who suffers from light form of schizophrenia, was previously given the same sentence for the crime but in 2005 the Supreme Court of Cassation decreed that the case should be reconsidered for lack of enough evidence.
