Zambian Sentenced for Receiving Bribe from Bulgarian Company

A former Zambian high-ranking government official was sentenced to five years in prison for receiving bribes, the biggest of which was given by a Bulgarian pharmaceutical company.
Kashiva Bulaia, who is a former Secretary of the country's Health Ministry, was found guilty on receiving three of the charges. One of them is that Bulaia received a bribe of around USD 250,000 from a Bulgarian company, which wanted to be granted a permission to import the Elexir-9 medicine in Zambia.
The accused has committed the crimes in the period 1996-2001 while still on the post in the Health Ministry.
