Bulgarian Businessman Sentenced for Illegal Construction

The Chairman of the Association of Bulgarian Turks and businessman Gursel Aliev was sentenced on Wednesday for illegal construction of a building.
Aliev was sentenced to two and a half years behind in prison by the court in Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv.
Aliev had erected a building in the heart of Plovdiv on a property, which he claimed was his by inheritance from his mother. A check showed his mother had indeed used the land, but it was property of the municipality and not hers.
Furhtermore, the sentenced businessman could not provide any documents that could prove his ownership of the land.
For several years Aliev refused to demolish the building, claiming it was his Association's club.
