Crime | February 15, 2007, Thursday // 00:00
25-year-old Bulgarian with US citizenship, who launched two phoney web pages for gathering money in support of Libya-jailed nurses, was arrested Thursday in a joint raid of the two countries' police.
The man uploaded the sites on an US server and put the "You are not alone" ribbon's image at the home pages.
When clicking on the ribbon, the users were forwarded to the forged site of the non-existing foundation "Free and Democratic Bulgaria".
The site was adjusted so that it could accept "donations", amounting to between USD 1 and USD 500.
The money went to the criminal's personal account in a Chicago bank.
The cheat's identity was revealed for less than 24 hours.
He is to face charges of computer frauds.
