Crime | January 22, 2007, Monday // 00:00

Speeding drivers are the reason for 95% of the car accidents along Bulgaria's roads, statistics have revealed.

The country's Infrastructure of the Republic Fund has already had the rough data compiled and the alarming trends are quite evident. Roughly around 5% of the accidents are caused by drunk drivers and the percentage of crashes due to bad roads is below one.

With the growing number of accidents along Bulgaria's roads, and the numerous body count in any given month, many local media call what is happening, a "War on the Roads". A total of 118 people have been killed along the streets of Sofia alone in 2006, with two-thirds of them being pedestrians.
