A powerful bomb explosion went off in front of the apartment of Bulgarian top crime reporter Vassil Ivanov from private Nova TV last night.

No one was injured in the explosion, but there are serious material damages. Ivanov's apartment was completely demolished, the windows of the entire residential block, and more than 15 cars parked outside the block were smashed.

The bomb went off at 3 a.m. in the Banishora western district in Sofia, police officials confirmed. It was planted at the seventh floor in front of Ivanov's flat, where his mother and sister were at that time.

Nearly 0,5 kg explosives were used for the bomb.

"This is not a threat, this is an attempt on my life," Ivanov told reporters, underlining that he had received no threats.

"Everything in the apartment is blown to pieces, the rest of the apartments literally lay in ruins," said the crime reporter in private Nova TV channel.

"The assassination attempt threatened the life of more than 20 people, who are my neighbors," he added. "My family was inside and it's a wonder nobody was injured."

Ivanov is author of some of the most scandalous investigation stories of Nova TV. He recently uncovered human rights abuse in the central Sofia prison, which resulted in massive checks in the jail system and several dismissals. He also did an investigation into the work of alawyer, who illegally sold the car of Bulgaria's ex top prosecutor and the President.
