The population on the Earth towered to 6.5 billion people for the first time ever late on February 25, the International Programs Center at the US Census Bureau said.

On average, 4.4 people are born every second. People seem to be having sex now more than ever, compensating for the number of lives claimed by diseases or guns.

Some six years from now, on Oct. 18, 2012 at 4:36 p.m. ET, the Earth is projected to become home to 7 billion folks.

Experts point out that the only invariable in the population trends over the last fifty years is the fact that populations grow most rapidly where such growth can be afforded the least.
