Bulgaria will become the first European country to hold clinical studies of an anti-cancer vaccine by Dr. Kenichiro Hasumi, a physician specialized in cancer immunotherapy and terminal care.

Hasumi and Bulgarian colleague Prof. Ivan Chernozemski have met President Georgi Parvanov on Tuesday, who hailed the team's efforts.

Hasumi's vaccine is already in use in Japan, with Bulgaria becoming the world's first country that joins, the state radio BNR said.

The vaccine stimulates the immune system, medics explained.

Hasumi is the founder the Hasumi International Research Foundation (HIRF) as a non-profit organization in the United States.
