Pagan Tomb Calls on Scientific Sensation

An Old-Bulgarian tomb has been revealed nearby the Black Sea cap of Kaliakra.

Archaeologists hope to prove their initial suggestion that the tomb was built by early Bulgarian-lands settlers, known as Old Bulgarians or Proto-Bulgarians.

The tomb is made from enormous stone blocks, "quadres", with a north-south orientation, which presupposes the lack of Christian funeral carried on site.

Another hypothesis dates the tomb between 3rd and 4th century, suggesting that it was later reused in Middle Ages.

According to ancient annals, in 680 AD khan Asparukh transferred a significant part of his Bulgarian army and population to the south of the Danube delta and took up the lands of present-day Dobrudja to settle one of oldest states in Europe, and the only one to preserve its original name through 13 centuries - Bulgaria.
