Households Internet penetration in Bulgaria is just 5%, a survey, cited by the Bulgarian National Radio revealed.

The survey was carried out just before the beginning of the "New Media, New Chances" forum organized by the Center for culture and debates The Red House.

The survey revealed that most of the Bulgarians would prefer to use the on-line media as it offers faster access to the latest news, it is much more comfortable and a lot cheaper.

These advantages as well as some of the drawback of the so called "new media" top the agenda of the forum that will kick off in Sofia on Wednesday. Important questionssuch as whether the Internet media could replace the traditional one and its influence on the other types of media are also included in the discussions at the seminar.

At the end of January a survey of the National Statistical Institute showed that some 151,000 Bulgarian households are connected to the Internet, most of them (95%) living in larger urban areas.
