A strong earthquake shook Bulgaria's southern neighbour Greece early Monday. The tremor was felt in the southern part of the country and authorities said there were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage.
The Thessaloniki Seismological Institute said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.6 and occurred at 2:35 a.m. The epicenter was said to be just outside the southern Greek city of Kalamata.
Police in Kalamata said many people rushed into the streets, but that there were no reports of injuries or damage beyond cracks in some older buildings.
