Ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein paid off in oil to some 200 foreign statesmen and eminent public figures who supported him, AFP reported, citing sources from the Iraqi Oil Ministry.
Bulgaria is said to be on the list of countries where these people live now.
At least two prime ministers and another two ministers of foreign affairs are said to be among the prominent people who were favored by Saddam Hussein because of their loyalty and in return were given the generous bounties. High-ranking politicians, journalists, sons of ministers and heads of state are on the list too, AFP says.
In its latest issue Baghdad newspaper Al-Mada published a list of the oil contracts greenlighted by the State Organization for Oil Trade in 1998. It features 200 people from 40 countries, including Bulgaria.
Saddam is said to have given away millions of barrels of crude oil to his loyal supporters.
With the assistance of Interpol Iraqi Oil Ministry will seek to lodge a complaint in a bid to get back the spent money.
