MEIJI Dairies Japanese Corporation, which has been producing Bulgarian yoghurt in Japan for thirty years already, is planning to expand the market of Bulgarian diary products in Southeastern Asia, the corporation president Shigetaro Asano announced during his visit to Bulgaria.

MEIJI Dairies currently holds a 30% of Japan's market of dairy products produced under Bulgarian license. A year ago the Japanese company extended by 20 years its license agreement with LB Bulgaricum.

MEIJI Dairies-produced Bulgarian yoghurt is known to 95% of consumers in Japan. In 1996 it was acknowledged as a healthy product by Japan's Health Care Ministry.

In a separate development Foreign Minister Passy thanked Shigetaro Asano for popularising Bulgarian culture in Japan and expressed the hope that the support will continue in the future.

In 1973 MEIJI launched production of Bulgarian yoghurt MEIJI. For more than 30 years now the company has been Japan's biggest producer of yoghurt and sponsor of various events related to Bulgaria.
