Bulgaria: The Lev Exits Circulation, Enters Collector Circles
As Bulgaria phases out the lev at the end of January, the numismatic market is already responding to the change, though not all coins are attracting attention.

On March 24, the weather across the country will be predominantly cloudy, with occasional rain showers expected in the western and northern regions. Temperatures will remain mild, ranging between 17°C and 22°C, with Sofia seeing highs of around 18°C. A light to moderate south-southwesterly wind will be present throughout the day.
Along the coast, conditions will be mostly cloudy with occasional sunny spells. A moderate south-southwesterly wind will persist, keeping temperatures between 15°C and 18°C. The seawater temperature will be around 8°C.
In the mountains, cloud cover will dominate, accompanied by rain showers. Winds from the west-southwest will be moderate to strong. At an altitude of 1,200 meters, temperatures will reach around 14°C, while at 2,000 meters, they will be closer to 7°C.
Cold conditions will persist across Bulgaria on Tuesday, with morning temperatures dropping further, while daytime values edge up slightly.
A yellow warning for extremely low temperatures will be in force on Monday across all of Northern Bulgaria, as well as in several regions south of the Balkan Mountains. Alongside northern areas, the cold alert also applies to Sofia City, Sofia Region, Kyu
The year 2025 continued Bulgaria’s trend of above-average temperatures, with the country registering an annual mean roughly 1.2°C above long-term climate norms.
Bulgaria is set for a cold and wet weekend on January 10-11, 2026, with widespread cloud cover and precipitation across the country.
The Sofia Municipality has announced that roads leading to Aleko Chalet and Zlatnite Mostove will be temporarily closed on weekends from 10:00 to 15:00 due to anticipated snowfall and very low temperatures
