Man Fired a Pistol at a Census 2021 Counter in Pernik Region
We register a very high percentage of resigned counters. This was said by the chairman of the national statistics Sergei Tsvetarski. He pointed out that the main impact is the epidemic situation.
"In Sofia, for example, we lack about 600 counters. They should count about 1,300 polling stations," Tsvetarski said. All counters are instructed and equipped with all anti-epidemic means, they are instructed not to make close contact, to keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters and if possible to do everything from a certain distance. In case you are not visited by a census, you can contact the temporary census centers in the country, said the chairman of the statistics.
As of October 4, there are 2,771,000 people counted by the counters, together with 2,404,000 electronically counted, we have a total of 5,176,000 people as of yesterday, which is 74.8% of the population, said Magdalena Kostova from the NSI. The census will last until 8 pm on October 10. No new extension is foreseen at this stage.
Tsvetarski also pointed to a case in Pernik, which he said was also learned from the media. "On Sunday afternoon, a man who was visited by our counters threatened and fired a gas pistol at the enumerator in the village of Yardzhilovtsi. The woman went to the man's address to count him, identified herself from afar, however, a shot was fired at her, she said, with a gas pistol. The police were notified there, they talked to the woman, I also talked to her and the mayor of the village. These cases are absolutely unacceptable from any point of view, and I hope that they will not be without consequences for the perpetrators. From the very beginning of the preparation of the census, the Ministry of Interior has been our partner and has provided teams to act in such cases, "said the NSI Chairman. He pointed out that they also provide assistance in some areas where access is difficult.
