Bulgaria: Bulgaria: President Starts Consultations on New Cabinet on Monday, April 19

President Rumen Radev addressed the National Assembly after the new lawmakers took the oath of office.

He announced that on Monday (April 19) he would start consultations with parliamentary groups to form a government.

"The moral integrity, culture, professionalism of the cabinet members, which we all expect you to nominate as quickly as possible, will be crucial for regaining trust in the institutions, for taking the country out of the crisis and for our full European integration.

I believe that it would be a clear sign to nation if you, the political forces for which the Bulgarians cast their votes, reach a consensus for the formulation and implementation of a pact of honesty and competence concerning the nominees for high government positions.

In the event that the NA fails to deliver a government, I will fulfill my constitutional obligations to appoint a caretaker cabinet.

I wish all of you, to have your names written down in the history of Bulgaria thanks to just laws and valiant service to your Motherland. Good luck!" the head of state stressed in his address.

Earlier, Rumen Radev was greeted with approving chants by the few protesters who gathered opposite the front entrance of the National Assembly.
